Time Will Not Wait

I wanted to do something different this week and feature some of the ClearView staff. Today’s post is by Jacob Scrimpshire, our Minister to Middle School Students. Follow his blog, Twitter and Facebook.

I love to read. I try to read up on numerous things from history to poetry. One of the topics I like to read about in my free time is time management. I read blogs and books on the topic regularly. I know that may sound strange for leisure reading, but I guess I am a little strange. The reason I am so drawn to this topic is simple. Time management is crucial to all areas of life. The handling of it can either increase or decrease productivity in personal and professional life. Time will not wait on us. We must at least manage it the best way we can. One of the most basic methods of increasing productivity through time management is one we use frequently. You may have used it this morning. It is making a basic list. The best way to approach the list is to write down all of the things that need to be done and then go back and prioritize those items by the most important. To truly find the highest priority, one must find the tasks that have time sensitive urgency and carry the most weight. Those items are elevated to the top. Then you begin to implement your plan to complete those tasks.

;

This works extremely well for people personally, but what if we were to apply this simple method to our personal ministry to our communities? What if we were to be intentional about focusing on what God is calling us to do personally with the people we come in contact with daily? What if we truly regained the true urgency of our mission to the broken and poor in spirit?

First, let’s look at an example on

Worship Is: A Statement of the Beliefs About Worship

I wanted to do something different this week and feature some of the ClearView staff. Today’s post is by Michael Smith, our Associate Pastor/Worship. Follow his blog, Twitter and Facebook.

The following post is taken from a document that our worship staff worked on and prayed over during last year. We took time each week in our worship planning meetings to look into God’s Word and find what it had to say about worship. We also read and gained insight from solid books on worship. We also scoured the internet to find churches who had published their beliefs and values on worship.

Since the following was authored we have used it and continue to use it in these ways:

1. Communicated the contents to our whole staff. We wanted them to know what we think about when planning services. We also believe that the same thought should go into any worship gathering whether that is for children, youth and any other gathered group.
2. We continually refer to these statements in our worship planning and evaluate past services and plan future services against these values.

Many of us have been asked over the years: “what is the worship like at ClearView?” And probably most of our answers have centered on the ‘style’ of music that Continue reading

The Things a Mom Says

This past Sunday we celebrated and honored our mothers. As most of you do, I thank God for my mom. What a blessing to be born into the Christian home I was born into! And what a blessing to be born to the strong Christian woman I was born to.

One of the ways a mother makes an impression on us is through the little sayings she may have had as we grew up … the little sayings to help guide us … the little bites of
wisdom she shared through these sayings.

For me, the one that stands out my mom used often was, “If you can’t say something nice about someone, don’t say anything at all.” I wish I had done a better job of keeping that one, Continue reading

Christ In Control, But What About Gethsemane?

We learned Sunday Jesus was in control of the timing of His crucifixion. Someone asked, “But didn’t He pray in the Garden of Gethsemane that the Father would stop it?” Here is my response.

Christ was in control of the timing and the details of His crucifixion. He had to arrive in Jerusalem at just the right time. He had to be on the cross by Friday of that Passover Week. You see, it was on Friday all the Passover lambs were slaughtered. Continue reading

5 Things Your Pastor Wants You To Know But Can’t Tell You

I usually run a video blog this time each week. This week, I thought I would share a video I received from my friend James MacDonald. James has served as the pastor of Harvest Bible Church for almost three decades now. This video is of a message he shared with about 2,000 pastors and other church leaders in a conference at his church recently.

Calling All Prayer Warriors

This coming Sunday evening, April 29, I have the privilege of speaking with a core group of people looking to plant a church in the south Nashville / Brentwood area. I have spent some time with their leader, Bryndan Loritts, and have come to appreciate his heart for reaching this area for Christ. You can find out more about the church plant at http://www.harvestnashvillecentral.org.

My role Sunday evening will be to challenge and encourage the core group. I would love to have a few prayer warriors attend with me. The group will be having a prayer Continue reading

Engaging

You may know the story of Jonah. He was a prophet God told to go to a place called Ninevah to tell the people they needed to repent and follow Him. If you are a prophet, this should be an assignment to be expected. Of course this would be your assignment. After all, you are a prophet.

But as you may know Jonah chose to run in another direction. He didn’t say a word to God. He simply ran…in the opposite direction. Rather than engage in the spiritual battle God assigned, he chose to disengage. Rather than plug in to the place of service Continue reading
